ਸਿੱਖੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਵੰਡ ਛੱਕਣ ਵੱਲ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ ; ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਕਸਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮਿਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇਹਧਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਜੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬੇਧਿਆਨੇ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵਣ | ਚੌਥੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸਲੋਕ ਇਸੇ ਗੱਲ ਉਤੇ ਜੋਰ ਦੇੰਦਾ ਹੈ :

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਨੰਗਾ ਭੁਖਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਫਰੁ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਰਜਿ ਖਾਏ ॥
ਜਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਫਰੈ ਹਥਿ ਆਵੈ ਅਣਹੋਦੀ ਕਿਥਹੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਉਖੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥

Mėhlā 4.

Sāhib jis kā nangā bẖukẖā hovai ṯis ḏā nafar kithhu raj kẖā-e.

Jė sāhib kai gẖar vath hovai so nafrai hath āvai aṇhoḏī kithhu pā-e.

Jis ḏī sevā kīṯī fir lekẖā mangī-ai sā sevā a-ukẖī ho-ī.

Nānak sevā karahu har gur safal ḏarsan kī fir lekẖā mangai na ko-ī. ||2||305

ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਜਾਂ ਨੰਗਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਰੱਜਕੇ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਖਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਜਦੋਂ ਘਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੈ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੁਝ, ਤਦ ਨੌਕਰ ਲਵੇ ਵੀ ਕੀ ? ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਵੀ ਜੇ ਫੇਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਵੀ ਔਖੀ ਹੀ ਹੋਈ | ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸੇਵਾ ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਕਰੋ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਦਿਆਂ ਜੀਵਨ ਜਿਉਂਦਿਆਂ) ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਗੇ ਹੀ ਨਾ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ, ਲੇਖਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੌਣ ਮੰਗ ਸਕੇਗਾ, ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਵੱਲ ਹੈ )|

ਇਸ ਸਲੋਕ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਕੰਨੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਇਕ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੱਗਣ ਤੋਂ; ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਰੱਖਕੇ, ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਗੋਡੇ ਟੇਕਣ ਦੀ ਜਰੂਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ | ਦੂਸਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਘੁਮਰਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਹਨ; ਸੇਵਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੇਠ ਲੁੱਟ ਕਸੁੱਟ ਹੈ | ਆਪਣੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਵੇਖ ਲੋਵੋ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੇਠ ਲੋਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੁੱਟੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ | ਜੋ ਦੇਹਧਾਰੀ ਪੈਸਾ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਹਨ ਉਨਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੈ ਕੀ ? ਖੁਦ ਅਧਿਆਮਿਕ ਤੌਰਤੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਹਨ ਬਲਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਕੰਮ ? ਅਜੇਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ | ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਖੇਦ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਸੇ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਜਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਸਕੇ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਧਿਆਤਮਕ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਨੰਗ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਚੱਲ ਪੈ ਹਨ | ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਸਾਧ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਤ ਸੰਗਤ ਉਤੇ ਵੀ ਜੋਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ; ਸਾਧ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਲਗਾਓ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ; ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਲੀਮੀ, ਸਾਦਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਜੇ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਵੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਣਾ ਸਿੱਖੋ | ਸੱਤ ਸੰਗਤ ਉਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨ ਹੋਵਣ | ਇਹ ਸਲੋਕ ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਫੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਜਰੂਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ |

Praising Only The Universal Creator

The Sikhi inspires the Sikhs to remember and worship only the universal Creator, to make a living with hard work and to share with others. The Gurbani gives various examples not to connect to the people indulged in Maya so that they don’t get caught in the net of exploitation of these people. The following Slok of Fourth Guru stresses on this very issue:

The bani of Fourth Nanak.

In essence: If a master is hungry and poor, from where his servant can eat? If the master has a thing, his servant can have it, but if there is nothing, from where the servant can have anything? If by performing someone’s service, still the account of deeds is called for, then that service is hurtful. Serve Akalpurakh through the Satiguru; it is successful, because then the account of deeds is not called for.

Through this slok, the Guru makes aware the Sikhs not to worship other entity than Akalpurakh. Once a Sikh gets attached to Akalpurakh by having deep faith in Him, he or she doesn’t need to bow before anyone else, because at other doors, there are teachings to misguide people so that they can be exploited. Look around how some people are exploiting other people in the name of the religion. The human being posing to be spiritual seers are into a profession of making money and what can they give to the people about divinity.

For those who are spiritually bankrupt, of what purpose are they? The Guru is calling for these people. It is very sad that many Sikh people blindly are following such religious leaders whose purpose is to make money. The Gurbani, of course, stresses also to be with a “Sadh” and in “Sattsangat”; Sadh is a person who is detached from the worldly things and committed to connect the people to the universal Creator. His heart is dipped in humility and modesty. If there is a such sadh, it is worth learning from him how to connect with Akaalpurakh। Sattsangat is a group of people that is into praising the Creator and it is far away from the talk of making money. This slok is enough to understand that it is not worth to praise others but the universal Creator only.
