ਰਾਗ ਮਾਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਰਲ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਤੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ | ਉਨਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਨ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈਕੇ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਨਾਂ ਸੰਤਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲੈਣਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅਸਲੀ ਸੰਤ ਹਨ | ਅਸਲ ਸੰਤ ਪਹਰਾਵਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ | ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਪੈਸਾ ਇਕੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਖੌਤੀ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸੰਤ ਮੰਨ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਮਾਨਈ ॥ (925)| ਹੇਠਲੀਆਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਤਰਾਂ, ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ 1030 ਅੰਗ ਉਤੇ ਹਨ :

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਬੋਲਹੁ ॥
ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਟੋਲਹੁ ॥
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥

Rām nām gur bacẖnī bolhu.

Sanṯ sabẖā mėh ih ras tolahu.

Gurmaṯ kẖoj lahhu gẖar apnā bahuṛ na garabẖ majẖārā he. ||4||

ਅਰਥ: ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲਵੋ; ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਰੰਗ ਰਸ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਲਵੋ | ਜੇ ਇੰਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਕਰ ਲਵੋਂ (ਕਿ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਜੀ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਦਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੀ ਹੋ ), ਤਦ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਫੇਰ ਗਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈਦਾ |

ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇੰਝ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਇਕਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ “ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਰਤ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲੋ; ਉਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ |” ਲੱਚਰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇੰਦਾ| ਐਵੇਂ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਕਾਂਡ ਵਾਂਗ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਉਚਾਰੀ ਪਰ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਡਬੋ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ, ਇੰਝ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਨੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਹਮਿਆਤ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਉਹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੇ ਡੋਲਾਵੇ ਵੀ ਤਦ ਸੰਤ- ਸੰਗਤ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਡੋਲਨ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਂਦੀ | ਬਾਕੀ ਜੋ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਡੁੱਬੇ ਹੋਈ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਲਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਸਮਝਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ?

ਅਗਲੀਆਂ ਸਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂਜੀ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਅਸਲ ਤੀਰਥ ਕਰੋ; ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੱਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਯੁਗਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਧੋਵੋ ਰੱਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੋਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਰੀਰ ਧੋਣ ਲਈ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਓਂ ਭਟਕਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ (‘ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ 61’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਣ ਜਾਉ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ॥ (687)’ )? ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਪੂਰਦੀ ਹੈ :

ਸਚੁ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥
ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਹਰਿ ੋਲਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Sacẖ ṯirath nāvhu har guṇ gāvhu.

Ŧaṯ vīcẖārahu har liv lāvhu.

Anṯ kāl jam johi na sākai har bolhu rām pi-ārā he. ||5||

ਅਰਥ : ਹਰਿ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੋ ਤੇ ਇੰਝ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ ਕਰੋ; ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਲਾਕੇ ਰੱਖੋ; ਇੰਝ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਏਗਾ (ਫੇਰ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੌਤ ਇੱਕ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗੇਗੀ ਬਲਕੇ ਉਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਿਕ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਲੱਗੇਗੀ )|

ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੁਝ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਗੁਣ ਅਪਨਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫਤ ਕਰਨੀ ਆਸਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚ ਪਾਈਦੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ| ਉਹ ਗੁਣ ਹਨ :

ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਜਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਪਰਾਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥

Saṯ sanṯokẖ rahhu jan bẖā-ī.

Kẖimā gahhu saṯgur sarṇā-ī.

Āṯam cẖīn parāṯam cẖīnahu gur sangaṯ ih nisṯārā he. ||8||

ਅਰਥ: ਉਹ ਭਾਈ! ਸੱਤ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੋ; ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਓਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਾਓ | ਇਹ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ ਕੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪ ਕੀ ਹੈ?(ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਜਾਣੋ ) ਇੰਝ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲਵੋ |ਇਸ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਣੋ |

ਸੱਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਵਰਗੇ ਗੁਣ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਗਲਤ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਨਸੀਹਤ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਰਹਨੁਮਾ ਬਣਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤੱਥ ਦਾ ਅਹਸਾਸ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸੇ ਅਕਾਲਪੁਰਖ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਾਂ; ਇਹ ਜਾਣਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਫੇਰ| ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਾਫ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੀ ਰਹਨੁਅਮਈ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਤੋਂ ਕਂਮ ਲੈਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਮਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜਾਰਨਾ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ |

What To Do To Be With The Creator, In The Guru’s Words

In Sri Guru Granth Sahib on 1030, measure Maaru, Sri Guru Nanak ji guides his followers in very lucid language about some vital points to live in our Creator’s love. One of the points the Guru states is to remember the Creator through the Guru’s guidance in the company of those who are already devoted towards His praise constantly. The real Sants rise above attachment and other Maya influences. Remember, the Guru doesn’t accept a person a Sant if he is involved in the Maya pursuits. ( ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਮਾਨਈ ॥ 925: Sadhu or Sant is that wise one who is accepted by Prabh). The following verses are on SGGS, 1030:

Rām nām gur bacẖnī bolhu.

Sanṯ sabẖā mėh ih ras tolahu.

Gurmaṯ kẖoj lahhu gẖar apnā bahuṛ na garabẖ majẖārā he. ||4||

In essence: Utter Akalpurakh’s name through the Guru’s advice; find His name-essence in His devotees’ company. Through the Guru, search out your inner self and its abode, and then there will be no womb-birth again.

Does remembering the Creator helps in becoming one with Him; the Guru says that it is possible absolutely only if one changes one’s atmosphere suitable to concentrate on Him. It means stay in the company of those who remain imbued with the Creator and keep praising Him so that one can remain focused on Him.. Obscene culture littered in Maya doesn’t let a person concentrate on Him. The company of the Sants doesn’t let Maya influence His devotees, and the ones who already strayed in Maya cannot guide others in the pursuit of the Creator. The Guru counsels us that the praising sincerely the Creator helps in becoming free from the idea of doing pilgrimages (because if the mind is impure what body washing at pilgrimage-places will do and actually pilgrimage is His Naam that cleanses the mind “ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥ 61’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਣ ਜਾਉ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ॥ 687)::

ਸਚੁ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ॥
ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥

Praise Har’s virtues; doing so is like doing a pilgrimage. Fix your attention on Him by contemplating Him. Utter my dear Har’s name; the fear of death will not affect you in the end.

To do all this, the Guru asks the seekers to gather the virtues that become helpful in praising Him and becoming one with Him. Those virtues are:

Saṯ sanṯokẖ rahhu jan bẖā-ī.

Kẖimā gahhu saṯgur sarṇā-ī.

Āṯam cẖīn parāṯam cẖīnahu gur sangaṯ ih nisṯārā he. ||8||

Oh brother! Live contentedly by holding on to the virtues; attain forgiveness and tolerance in the Satiguru’s refuge; understand the soul and the Supreme Soul (Prabh); all this is understood in the Guru’s association.

The Truth and the contentment correct the ill behavior of the people; so, follow the Guru’s advice and must realize this that actually we are a part of the Creator’s own light/energy. By knowing this fact, it becomes possible to realize Him. Thus, the Guru guides the seekers very clearly to lead them to our Creator, but it is up to them if we should practice the Guru’s advice or live only as our own mind to practice divinity; the Guru leaves the entire act of becoming one with Him up to them.
