To remain close to the Creator | GURSOCH-The Gurbani Connection
On 219 SGGS, Ninth Nanak advises his followers not to involve in the Maya so that they can realize the Creator. Here is that shabda:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
Ik-oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
There is only one All Pervading Akalpurakh, who is obtained with the blessings of the Satiguru.
ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ 9 ॥
Rāg ga-oṛī mėhlā 9.
Raag Gaurhi, the bani of Ninth Nanak.
ਸਾਧੋ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਮਾਨੁ ਤਿਆਗਉ ॥
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਦੁਰਜਨ ਕੀ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਾਗਉ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sāḏẖo man kā mān ṯi-āga-o.
Kām kroḏẖ sangaṯ ḏurjan kī ṯā ṯe ahinis bẖāga-o. ||1|| Rahā-o.
In essence: Oh devotees of Akalpurakh! Abandon the conceit of your minds. Always remain away from lust, anger, and evildoers. Pause.
ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੋਨੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਉਰੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਅਪਮਾਨਾ ॥
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਅਤੀਤਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਗਿ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥1॥
Sukẖ ḏukẖ ḏono sam kar jānai a-or mān apmānā.
Harakẖ sog ṯe rahai aṯīṯā ṯin jag ṯaṯ pacẖẖānā. ||1||
A person who takes comfort and pain, honor or insult alike and remains aloof from joy and sorrow has realized Akalpurakh (the essence of life) in the world.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੋਊ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਖੋਜੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਨਾ ॥
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਕਠਨੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਨਹੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਨਾ ॥2॥1॥
Usṯaṯ ninḏā ḏo-ū ṯi-āgai kẖojai paḏ nirbānā.
Jan Nānak ih kẖel kaṯẖan hai kinhūʼn gurmukẖ jānā. ||2||1||
A person who seeks the supreme status of salvation remains aloof from praise and criticism. Oh Nanak! This game is difficult, and through the Guru, a rare person understands it.
So, we should listen to the Guru and work hard to over come our conceit to live in His love.
